Why Visit South Africa?
South Africa is affordable luxury with the Pound still a lot stronger than the Rand, so why not give it a try, you will not be disappointed. Take in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife and still manage to buy souvenirs and have a hearty restaurant meal without breaking the bank.
Most people first think of Cape Town, the Garden Route and Safari when they think of South Africa. They will not be disappointed with a wealth of both state and privately owned game farms, all offering great wildlife viewing and encounters. The Garden Route lives up to its name with beautiful plant life and greenery in picture post card towns and villages. Cape Town does this equally with its great nightlife, shopping and restaurants.
If you are not keen on safari or sightseeing, why not relax? South Africa has so much to offer those wanting to take life at a slower pace, from wellness spas and world class beaches. South Africa has a year round "summer" climate which means you are guaranteed sunshine on your holiday. The winter is much colder than summer however during the day you can still see temperatures in the mid 20's (degrees Celsius). South Africa is also famous around the world for its wine. The many wine estates around the western cape are open to visitors, so if you would like a little sophistication on your holiday, why not test all the regions fantastic wines. It isn't called the wine route for nothing!
Known also as an adventurers paradise, South Africa has almost every outdoor activity you can think of. If you love seeking out thrills, bungee jumping and para-gliding are common place and if you really have nerves of steel, there is white shark cage diving. Those of you who love the outdoors but aren’t keen on extreme sports or activities, there are many other things to do. Hiking is very popular and there are many famous hiking trails where you can take time to take in the wonderful scenery and history that South Africa has to offer. Other activities consist of: hot air ballooning, surfing, rock climbing, kayaking and believe it or not skiing.
South Africa is steeped in History from the Anglo-Boer Wars to Apartheid, not to mention the fact that it is believed that all of mankind is descended from there. History buffs will not be disappointed! There are also countless examples of the rich culture and history. This can be seen in not only the museums but also walking through the towns and districts. For example there is a wonderful Indian community boasting a wealth of spices and Indian cuisine. Gandhi also spent a lot of time in South Africa and actually started his quest there. You can visit his statue in Durban. South Africa boasts many more famous people, most famous of course is Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first democratically elected president.
From what you can see South Africa has something for everyone and has more to offer than just wildlife and scenery. We hope this illustrates why South Africa would be such a great holiday and it is only a plane trip away (with no jet lag!)
