Hluhluwe is a small town in the heart of Zululand, Kwazulu-Natal around a 2 hour drive from Durban. It situated between Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve on the banks of the Hluhluwe River. Hluhluwe is a Zulu name and originated from the thorny climbers that were found along the river.
Cattle, timber, sugarcane and pineapples are farmed in the area. It is the main area where pineapples are farmed and produced. The area is famous for being home to the Zulu kings Dingiswayo and Shaka, who allegedly prompted the very first conservation laws and the oldest game reserve in the country - the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserve.
Hluhluwe has stunning scenery and as the home of the proud Zulu warrior, a visit will open your eyes to the cultural history of this powerful nation whose status is still respected and revered today.
