The White Lions of Sanbona
The White Lions of Sanbona
The Shamwari Game reserve and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve have teamed up to reintroduce a pride of White Lions into the wild.
This really is a conservationalists dream with the last white lions taken into captivity in the 1970’s. The white lions have so far started to hunt for themselves and started to breed. They are not out of the woods yet however and need constant monitoring for the time being. The success of this program lies with the cubs that will hopefully be hunting and breeding in the future.
The real danger for the white lions is that they being bred in captivity for hunting purposes. Horrible people out there are paying a lot of money to kill these magnificent beasts, taking every piece of dignity from them. The idea of this project is to hopefully release them into their native territory, The Timbavati region near the Kruger National Park.
