We are based in Scotland and although Scotland wasn't taking part in the tournament, there was a real World Cup fever going on. It was great to see South Africa on the World stage and the games and events were a daily talking point. As a result, the Vuvuzela is now one of the year's most talked about things, whether you love it or hate it, it will always remind you of the 2010 FIFA World Cup!
South Africa has suffered a lot of bad press in recent years and even in the months and weeks running up to the event, many sceptics from across the World doubted the country's suitability as the host. It was refreshing to see the country come together and prove them wrong. The BBC, apart from their commentary, did a great job in not only broadcasting the games, but educating viewers about South African history and great places to visit. South Africa has definitely moved up the holiday destination chart.
My heart burst with pride when watching the World Cup evolve, from the way South Africa accepted defeat just before the final stages of the tournament to seeing people from each creed and race come together to enjoy the event. Well done Spain but I think the winners of the World Cup will always be South Africa, but maybe I am a wee bit bias.
